IMPORTANT--Pismo Beach is a very popular place, especially in summer. Not only is it popular, all the rates increase during the summer months. This weekend we are going Pismo Beach is hosting a major classic car show, so rooms are already scarce. The rooms we did find are very pricey, with the exception of rooms in Santa Maria just south of Pismo. Primitive state park camping (camping on the beach without water or showers) is available as of this date, but you MUST make your reservations ASAP--details below.. Itinerary www.5cities.com FRIDAY: For those of you arriving Friday night pizza, let's meet for dinner at 6:00-8:00 p.m. Round Table, 1412 Grande Ave, Arroyo Grande. (805) 481-6996. This is within a mile of the Dunes where we will be hosting the Meet and Greet on Saturday morning. SATURDAY--9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Meet and Greet at the Oceano Dunes State Recreation Area Oceano Dunes SVRA, Grand Avenue (exit off Hwy. 101). Day use is $5.00 per vehicle--all vehicles can drive on this section of the beach, even the family car! Look for us just left of the entrance--we'll set up on the beach. You will have in and out privileges with day use and full use of the sand dunes. If you plan on running the dunes you must have a 8' red or orange flag on your Jeep. You can buy these flags near the park. Bring your own lunch. LODGING & CAMPING Most affordable rooms we found are located 14 miles south of the dunes off 101 at the Motel 6 in Santa Maria. They have enough rooms available to accommodate all of us. This will be the official event lodging, although we have included many other options. Motel 6 has a very liberal cancellation policy. $80.00 for a queen room. Reservation phone number (805) 928-8111, 2040 Preisker Lane, Santa Maria. Broadway Exit off 101. We visited this location and it looks like a nice place to stay. It has a pool and spa--conveniently located off 101.. The only camping we found available at this late date is Oceano Dunes Recreation Area--as we mentioned no water, or showers. $10.00 per night. Reservations are made through Reserve America (who charge a $7.50 booking fee). You can either reserve online @ Reserveamerica.com , select Oceana Dunes SVRA, or call them at (800) 444-7275--we recommend online because the phone number can be difficult to get though to.
